The focus of education and research is on Decision-Making problems in different areas of human activity. Besides common faculty courses, students get comprehensive knowledge of Optimization Theory, Mathematical Programming and Game Theory. The department always responds to the needs of society. Since 1994 , besides Operation Research, students may choose a new specialization in Actuaral Mathematics. Its program includes courses corresponding to the curriculum of the Society of Actuarals (USA).

At research seminars students get deeper specialization in Mathematical Models in Economics and Ecology, Decision-Making Theory, Mathematical Programming and Computation (including numerical and simulation techniques).
